Chris Bolton operates in the majestic Great Barrier Reef. It is a family owned and operated business committed to providing its customers the finest quality wild caught reef-fish. As a proud “Reef Guardian Fisher”, Chris plays his role in protecting and respecting the reef, by adhering to the guidelines enacted by The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The Reef Guardian Fishers Program “recognizes commercial fishers who are fishing sustainably and maintaining the health of the Great Barrier Reef while building the future of their fishery, their business and the reef.”

Having begun his fishing career at the age of 15, Chris has an array of experience in trawling prawns and scallops, working at fish hatcheries and commercial bech-de-mer-diving. He learnt the art of fishing from his grandfather and father and is extremely meticulous about the way fish is caught and handled. For Chris, nothing is more important than to make sure “each and every single fish is treated with the care and respect it deserves”, with chefs receiving the highest quality product there is to offer.

“I have spent more days on and in the Great Barrier Reef than I have on dry land”, says Chris. Over the years, he has developed a deep understanding of the Great Barrier Reef, not by reading books or hearing what others say, but through his own experiences. All his actions are guided by the strong belief that if he looks after the reef, his business and family’s future will look after itself.
